2010-2011 Projects

In the 2010-2011 academic year, 21 graduate students also assisted four Iowa communities.  Students returned to Decorah to assist that city in preparation of a revised comprehensive plan that includes Iowa’s Smart Planning Principles, adopted by the 2010 legislature. In Oskaloosa, students evaluated the economic and environmental impacts of the city’s waste hauling system and made recommendations for developing a more environmentally friendly and economical program. In Burlington, students completed a market analysis for adaptive reuse of an historic downtown building, while also developing an overall plan for encouraging private sector development in partnership with a local nonprofit. In Charles City, our students have developed a market analysis for a kayak park on the Cedar River and have made recommendations for linking the new park to downtown as well as enhancing the quality of water in the Cedar River through water quality credits trading.
