Dr. Marco Gilberti of Istituto Universitario di Architettura di Venezia (Venice, Italy) will give a presentation in 346 Jessup Hall on Tuesday, October 16th titled, "From Paris to Chicago: The Evolution of the Campus and Its Relationship to the City: 1825-1965."

Dr. Gilberti, a visiting post-doctoral fellow, will document and explore important connections between the plan for the campus and the plan for the city. He will argue that these connections, or nexuses, can be demonstrated from the origins of the campus around 1825 until at least the first half of the 1960s. Drawing upon his research, Dr. Gilberti will show campus plans and planning strategies that "campus planners" offered to the University and the City, wherein “the city" can be thought of as a metonym, or Metonimia, for the entire society.
