Jerry Anthony Named FAICP

Associate Professor, Jerry Anthony, has received the highest award given by the American Planning Association and been inducted into the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) College of Fellows. The honor is given in recognition of a planner's individual achievements and bestowed upon model planners who have made significant contributions to planning and society. Fellows are members of AICP and have achieved excellence in professional practice, teaching and mentoring, research, public and community service, and leadership.

“Individuals who make up the College of Fellows are the true leaders of the planning profession,” said past AICP President Valerie Hubbard, FAICP. “These individuals have made lasting contributions to the profession and have inspired generations of new planners. They are truly awe-inspiring.”

Fellows of AICP are nominated and selected by their peers to recognize and honor their outstanding contributions as a professional planner. Anthony has been an outstanding teacher at the University of Iowa's School of Planning and Public Affairs since he arrived nearly 20 years ago. In 2001, Anthony received the Iowa APA Chapter's Excellence in Planning Education award, an honor so rare it has not been awarded since.

Anthony is the first planner (practitioner or faculty) from the state of Iowa to be made a Fellow of the AICP in over 15 years. He is the only tenured faculty member in the state of Iowa that is currently a Fellow.

An induction ceremony into the AICP College of Fellows was to occur at the APA National Conference in Houston this April. While the conference has been canceled due to the Covid 19 pandemic, an alternative celebration is being explored.

APA and its professional institute, the American Institute of Certified Planners, are dedicated to advancing the art, science and profession of good planning -- physical, economic, and social -- so as to create communities that offer better choices for where and how people work and live. The American Institute of Certified Planners provides recognized leadership nationwide in the certification of professional planners, ethics, professional development, planning education, and the standards of planning practice.
