We are thrilled to announce that Associate Professor Carrie Lowry Schuettpelz has secured a book deal. Scheduled for publication by Flatiron Books, Trust: How Native Land Was Stolen and How We Get It Back, was recently announced. In this book, Carrie explores the theft of over 1.6 billion acres of Native American land over the past 200 years, blending narrative with data-driven analysis. She also examines how federal policies have hindered Native nations from reclaiming control of their land and outlines the necessary steps for its return.
Carrie’s first book, The Indian Card: Who Gets to Be Native in America, published in 2024, has received national attention and acclaim. In addition to receiving the 2023 Whiting Foundation Creative Nonfiction Grant, The Indian Card was included in The New Yorker’s best books of 2024.
