In addition to our two professional master's degree programs, SPPA offers other opportunities to be a part of our school.
International students are welcome at SPPA! We are able to offer a few funding opportunities each fall semester to candidates who rank in the top 10% of applicants and who submit their materials before January 15. Additionally, our Urban and Regional Planning program is officially a STEM-related degree under the U.S. Department of Education’s Classification of Instructional Programs (CIP) coding. International students who graduate from a STEM-related field have the option to extend their Optional Practical Training (OPT) to an additional 24 months, allowing them to work in the U.S. for three years.
Individuals interested in careers specifically related to the field of transportation can apply to our Transportation Certificate Program as a non-degree seeking student. This certificate can be completed part-time for mid-career professionals hoping to expand their skills and knowledge.
Although we are primarily a graduate program, SPPA offers some great opportunities for undergraduate students at the University of Iowa. We offer several general education and elective courses taught by our globally recognized faculty. Students can also earn undergraduate minors in Urban Studies and Public Policy.
UI Students who are interested in earning their master's degree in less time can also pursue our Undergraduate to Graduate degree programs that allow students to save time and money by beginning their graduate studies while they complete their bachelor's degree.
