Assistant Professor Bogdan Kapatsila concluded his first academic year on a high note as it coincided with having a paper published in Journal of Public Transportation! Together with coauthors Alex Hindle, Anson Stewart, and Emily Grise, they developed a methodology and built a tool for accessibility calculations of a transit network comprised of fixed routes and demand-responsive service. Their application of the method to assess bus network redesign in Edmonton, Alberta, found a significant increase in accessibility for the areas that lost fixed routes and were included in on-demand zones. This finding highlights the importance of comprehensive assessments that include all transit services to capture the externalities of the intervention.

Bo expresses his gratitude to Saar Golde and Tomás Rossetti, PhD of Via who shared the data which informed the study.
