Iowa leads the nation in the percentage of electricity produced by wind, making it a key player in the nation’s clean energy transition. Scott Spak, Associate Professor in the University of Iowa School of Planning and Public Affairs, was recently featured on Iowa Public Radio’s River to River to discuss the impact of the Big Beautiful Bill (P.L. 119-21) on wind and solar investments, as well as the future of renewable energy policy in Iowa and across the United States.
During the interview, Spak shared insights on how recent federal legislation shapes energy development, influence market dynamics, and affect long-term sustainability goals. He highlights the important roles of policy in guiding the continued growth of renewable energy in a state already recognized as a national leader in wind and solar.
In addition, he was recently quoted in the Financial Post article, “Oil prices are spiking: Can a solar tycoon convince America to embrace the sun?” The piece examines shifting energy markets and the roles of federal tax credit amid rising oil prices, with Spak providing expert perspective on the policy and economic factors influencing renewable energy adoption.
Beyond media engagement, Spak also served as a panelist for the University of Iowa Graduate and Professional Student Government and Faculty Senate event, “Common Ground: Applications of Eminent Domain.” The panel brought together campus and community voices to explore the legal, economic, and social dimensions of eminent domain and its real-world applications.
