Tokey Boswell has been awarded the 2005 AICP Outstanding Student Award. Tokey has maintained a truly superlative GPA during his time in our program. Out of the many hundreds of students who have gone through our program, he is one of only a tiny handful whose GPA has exceeded 4.0. As a research assistant, he compiled and reported on a wide range of topics relating to land use and environmental planning, including an energy analysis of biofuels, environmental justice litigation, and federal and state emission regulations. A further marker of Tokey’s proficiency is the fact that he has just been awarded a prestigious Presidential Management Internship for the forthcoming year.

His citizenship has also been exemplary. During his first year he participated in faculty meetings as the representative of first-year students, and during his second he acted as co-representative of our program to the Iowa Chapter of the APA. As if that were not enough, he has also served as a member of the Iowa Renewable Energy Association’s Board of Directors since 2002. When I-RENEW spun off a student group at the University of Iowa last summer, Tokey began serving as leader of the new student group. In September 2004 he helped organize a day-long environmental exhibit, which has since led to creation of the UI Sustainability Coalition. As a former Peace Corps volunteer to the Republic of Guinea in West Africa, Tokey has also continued to perform outreach services on behalf of the Peace Corps.
