In early October, students in Jerry Anthony's Housing Policy course went on a tour of affordable housing in Iowa City. Steven Rackis (Administrator, Iowa City Housing Authority) and Steven Long (Director, Community Development Division, City of Iowa City) led the tour. It was an extremely informative tour for the students who got to see a variety of affordably priced houses such as: public housing units, houses occupied by households receiving Housing Choice Vouchers, developments built with Section 8 project-based funding and Low Income Housing Tax Credits, the existing Shelter House, as well as the location for the proposed new one, and houses built with the Community Land Trust model.

During the tour, Steve & Steve also provided insights into recent changes in federal income guidelines for the Housing Choice Voucher program, as well as community concerns about the shortage and location of affordably priced units in Iowa City.
