As many of you know, Cedar Rapids was hit very hard by the record flood of June 2008. The Time-Check neighborhood on the northwest side of the city was among the most devastated. On October 12, Asst. Prof. Rick Funderburg led three students (Molly Fleming, Brock Grenis and Sara Snyder), a Social Work student (Myleena Grenis), and another Planning professor (Jim Throgmorton) to the neighborhood, where they cleaned up two trashed yards. Rick, who organized the work day, believes it is important for us in the University of Iowa to demonstrate our sense of connection with the flooded residents of our neighboring city to the north through volunteer work.
