Second-year student Andrea Heffernan has been conducting research during the first semester for the Iowa Policy Project. The Iowa Policy Project is a nonpartisan research organization based in Iowa City, focusing on energy and the environment, economic opportunity and budget issues. Heffernan's research centers on the state of Iowa's policy on waterways and how the voluntary conservation practices have been inadequate in protecting our people and waterways. Water contamination by bacteria is resulting from phosphorus and other nutrients in runoff from both farm fields and urban areas. The full report may be read here.
