Urban and Regional Planning is hosting a visit by Mr. Francesco Molinari from March 23 through April 3. On April 2nd Mr. Molinari will give a presentation from 4:30-5:45 p.m. in room 346 Jessup Hall titled, Rent a Delta: A Public Voice in Response to the City's Planning Strategies in Rijeka. He will discuss how a community-based art project engaged a dialogue with local politicians, urban planners and the port authority in Rijeka to raise important questions about the current transformation of that city in the context of Croatia's application for admission to the European Union and the economic difficulties of the past year. Molinari, who participated in this interdisciplinary project, will also discuss ways in which development along the Croatian coast has been affected by power structure decentralization, privatization, changes of territorial strategies in Rijeka and the other major cities on the Croatian coast. Molinari is an architect and researcher based in Rijeka, Croatia. Born in Venice, Italy, he graduated at the Istituto Universitario di Architettura di Venezia (IUAV). In 2006 he received his Master of Arts degree in International Studies, Interdisciplinary Program at The University of Iowa.
