Ashley Monroe is the Assistant Village Manager for the Village of Riverside, Illinois and has over fifteen years of experience in public service, including nearly five years as Deputy City Manager in Iowa City. Her current responsibilities as the Assistant Village Manager include management of the Community Development and Building Department, coordinating grants, and completing special projects. At Riverside, Ashley supports everyday operations of village services while implementing the strategic vision of the elected officials and the community. Ashley’s prior roles have included municipal planning, government communications, budgeting, personnel management and collective bargaining, and concentration on climate action initiatives. Due to her engagement in national organizations and work in communities with populations ranging from 8,000-80,000, Ashley has gained insight on the complexities, differences, and similarities in how public organizations function. Ashley’s instruction focuses on current approaches to public management and leadership from the perspective of an experienced practitioner.
