Jim Schwab, '85, now a senior research associate for the American Planning Association, was highlighted in a May 13 article in The New York Times as "a guru of disaster recovery." See the full article here.

As other alums may recall, Jim has given short courses on disaster planning for Iowa's students, and he has just concluded teaching a course on the topic in his spare time at Illinois's Chicago Circle campus.

According to Jim, the next step is to figure out how to monetize "guru." He suggests his next disaster planning presentation should take place in Hollywood, where he will sit cross-legged and turbaned in front of a group of movie moguls, and focus on Pacific Palisades mudslides.
