Redmond Jones

Biography

Redmond Jones II is currently Deputy City Manager for the City of Iowa City. Previously, he served as City Administrator for the City of West Branch, Iowa, and City Manager for the City of Groveland, Florida. His career in government and government relations includes working for the Cities of Las Vegas, NV; Lee’s Summit, MO; Fort Worth, TX; Temple, TX; Davenport, IA. Additionally, as a private sector consultant Jones has experience advising government clients, such as the Iowa Department of Transportation and the Iowa Governor’s Office.

During four years of his career, Jones operated a consulting company that also included agriculture-business clients, such as “African Farm Lands” (an American Company) with subsidiaries in Botswana and Zimbabwe. Through the Iowa Sister States and cities program, Jones provided leadership in several trade and business exploration missions to the Botswana Embassy in Washington, DC, and the Country of Botswana. In his current role with the City of Iowa City, Jones is assisting in developing municipal partnerships with similar jurisdictions in other nations, exploring opportunities for cultural exchange, and creating an atmosphere in which economic and community development can be implemented and strengthened.

Jones received his master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Kansas. His undergraduate studies included majoring in Urban Studies with a minor in Law Enforcement. He also completed the Harvard University Kennedy School of Government Senior Executive in State and Local Government Program, the University of Virginia Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service at the Darden School of Business (Senior Executive Institute), and Michigan State University School of Labor and Industrial Relations by the Human Resources Education and Training Center.
